GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  Military families face challenges and make sacrifices that most people cannot imagine.  No one understands the challenges and sacrifices of the military family more than the military spouse.  From PCS to deployments, the military spouse takes on the challenges of life in the Armed Forces with grace, strength, and devotion.  The resilience and readiness of the Marine Corps depends on the selfless contributions of our military spouses.
2.  In 1984, President Ronald Reagan formally recognized these important contributions by designating a day of appreciation for military spouses.  This recognition demonstrates the critical impact military spouses have had on the readiness of our military forces over the years and continue to have today.  Military spouses not only survive the challenges of this lifestyle, they thrive and bring a depth of services, resources, and ingenuity to military life.
3.  On Friday, 7 May 2021, we pause to celebrate Military Spouse Appreciation Day.  My wife Donna and I offer our sincere appreciation to all military spouses, especially those serving alongside our Marines.  I encourage all Marines and Sailors to express sincere gratitude to their spouses for their loving support and true dedication.  I also encourage leaders at all levels to take advantage of Military Spouse Appreciation Day to formally recognize the dedication of all military spouses.
4.  Semper Fidelis.  David H. Berger, General, U.S. Marine Corps, Commandant of the Marine Corps.//
