3.  Background.  Our 31st Commandant of the Marine Corps General Charles C. Krulak stated, “We must do everything we can to enhance the transformation of young men and women into the Marines that our Corps needs to win battles.”  He addressed this transformation in ALMAR 454/96 with the publication of MCRP 6-11D “Sustaining the Transformation” in 1999.  Later, General Amos ordered the change of MCRP 6-11D to MCTP 6-10A, Sustaining the Transformation.  He addressed:  Recruitment, Recruit Training, Transformation Erosion, Quality of Life, Leadership Traits and Principles.  In 2019, The 38th Commandant, General David H. Berger, wrote in his planning guidance, “Leaders are expected to do everything within their power to ensure the individual Marine succeeds.”  Sustaining the transformation from civilian to Marine is critical to that success.
4.  Purpose.  The goal is to develop the next version of Sustaining the Transformation.  The new version of Sustaining the Transformation should not only link the past to the present, but also transcend to the next generation of Marines.
5.  End State.  Sustaining the Transformation will be updated to reflect the current state of the Marine Corps.  The Commandant of the Marine Corps has embarked the service on a path towards historic change.  Sustaining the Transformation must align with the future of the Corps.
6.  In the event of postponement or cancellation, guidance will be provided through separate correspondence.  A detailed program that includes a virtual option and COVID mitigation procedures is being developed and will be promulgated separately, as necessary.
7.  Tasks.  The units listed below are requested to nominate Marines to be writing group members.  Nominated Marines should have at least 12 months time on contract remaining.  Names need to be submitted via email to SgtMaj Carlos Ruiz no later than 21 May 2021.  Upon release of this MARADMIN, SgtMaj Ruiz will provide coordinating instructions to the I MEF, II MEF, and III MEF sergeants major for the submission of a 1-2 page writing sample for consideration.  Writing samples from nominees will be reviewed and a panel of senior leaders will select participants no later than 28 May 2021.  The units listed below are requested to provide the following nominations.  (Rank of E4-E7 and O1-O3 are preferred.  Any MOS is eligible):
