SUBJ/2D MARINE AIRCRAFT WING ANNIVERSARY//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  On behalf of all Marines, it is my pleasure to recognize and honor the Marines and Sailors of the 2d Marine Aircraft Wing on the occasion of its 80th anniversary.
2.  Since its activation on 10 July 1941, with squadrons in San Diego and Hawaii, 2d MAW contributed mightily to the successful prosecution of operations and campaigns in the South Pacific.  Headquartered in North Carolina in 1946, 2d MAW's presence has since been felt across the globe in support and defense of the United States and its allies, from Japan and Southeast Asia, the Middle East, the Balkans, and the Americas.
3.  I join Marines everywhere in recognizing the legacy of aviation excellence established by all those who have served with 2d MAW - a legacy that you continue to build today.  Happy 80th Anniversary, and thank you for your continued dedication to the defense of our great nation.
