GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. On 7 July 2021, the Commandant of the Marine Corps convened the FY21 Lieutenant Colonel Command Screening Board. The purpose of command screening is to ensure that Marines receive the best possible leadership and to provide all eligible officers with a fair and equitable opportunity to command. Two general officers and eighteen colonels screened the records of eligible lieutenant colonels and lieutenant colonels (sel) for assignment to 152 operating/supporting establishment commands. Billets considered will normally become available during the period of 1 June 2022 to 31 May 2023.
2. The board selected 152 officers as primaries for command. To accommodate the assignment process and the availability of individual officers, 59 officers were selected as alternates and found eligible for command by the board. The alternate list provides an adequate number of officers to meet the command requirements should an officer decline command or otherwise be unable to take command.
3. The quality of the Marines considered reaffirms that the Corps continues to produce and promote leaders of the highest caliber. The relatively small number of command billets available and the large number of eligible officers combine to make command selection an exceptionally competitive process.
4. The Commandant of the Marine Corps has approved the following:

5. All officers selected as primaries and alternates for command will have a letter annotating selection included in their Official Military Personnel File (OMPF) by MMOA-3.
6. The list of officers selected as alternates will be published via the MMOA-3 "Board Updates and Information" webpage located at and then selecting the "Lieutenant Colonel Command Screening" link. The list will be posted alphabetically by full name and MOS. No action is required by officers on this list. If a command becomes vacant due to a declination or other circumstances, an approved alternate will be fleeted up from the prioritized alternate list.
7. Coordinating Instructions.
7.a. Primary selectees are to accept via email to their monitor listed in paragraph (8) NLT 27 August 2021. Those officers who decline command must submit their declination in writing (AA form) via the first general officer in their chain of command to HQMC (MMOA-3) NLT 3 September 2021.
7.b. Officers who decline command, unless otherwise approved by DC Manpower and Reserve Affairs due to extraordinary circumstances, will not be considered for any other command during the slating year and are ineligible for command screening on future boards.
7.c. Officers slated to command will schedule their attendance to the Cornerstone: Commandant's Combined Commandership Program prior to, or shortly after, assuming command. The program consists of two courses conducted concurrently aboard MCB Quantico: a ten-day commanders course and a five-day spouses workshop. These courses are conducted semiannually. FY22 courses will be announced via MARADMIN. POC for the Commanders Course may be reached at DSN 432-4710 or Commercial (703) 432-4710, or (703) 784-6850.
7.d. Officers slated for GCE commands are encouraged to attend the 4-day GCE Commanders Course (GCECC) prior to, or within the first six months of assuming command. GCECC is an operationally focused command preparation course designed to better ready GCE Commanders to lead, train, and tactically employ their Battalions and Regiments in the context of maneuver warfare in multi-domain operations against peer competitors in support of the Marine Air Ground Task Force. The course is conducted semiannually. FY22 courses will be announced via a separate MARADMIN. Course attendance is unit funded. Registration is hosted by MCTOG via email. POC for the GCE Commanders Course is Major Alex W. Barron, MCTOG Assistant Operations Officer, at (760) 830-8989 or email: alex.barron@usmc.mil.
