GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  The purpose of this MARADMIN is to publish course dates for the fiscal year 2022 Senior Leader Legal Course, Legal Officer Course, and Legal Clerk Course.
2.  The curriculum for these courses provides familiarization with the Uniform Code of Military Justice, administrative fact-finding bodies, administrative separation procedures, the courts-martial process, and ethics.  Travel, lodging, and per diem costs will be the responsibility of individual commands.  Due to evolving travel and social distancing restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, some courses may be held virtually or cancelled under the direction of the Commanding Officer, Naval Justice School.  Updates on course modifications or cancellations will be available when requesting course quotas.  For either in-person or virtual offerings, full attendance is required to receive course completion credit for each course.
3.  Eligibility.
    a.  Senior Leader Legal Course (SLLC):  The SLLC is a three-day course designed to prepare O-5 and O-6 commanding officers, executive officers, and E-8 and E-9 senior enlisted leaders/advisors for the legal issues they will likely face as a command triad and team.  Exceptions will be granted on a case-by-case basis to non-triad officers and enlisted who have a stated need for legal training due to added responsibility in their new billets.
    b.  Legal Officer Course (LOC):  The LOC is a two-week course designed to prepare non-lawyer personnel to assist the command with military justice procedures and evidence.  This course is open to commissioned officers in paygrades O-1 to O-4 and CWO2 to CWO5 who are designated in writing as legal officers or who will be assuming the role of legal officer within six months.  Enlisted Marines who wish to attend the course require a waiver.  Waiver requests must be forwarded by the enlisted Marine's executive officer (memorandum for record) representing that the member is the primary legal officer at the command and that no commissioned officers are available to fulfill the role of a legal officer.  All waiver requests should be submitted to JPI@usmc.mil.
    c.  Legal Clerk Course (LCC):  The LCC is a two-week course designed to prepare non-legal and civilian personnel, serving as legal clerks, to perform administrative support functions in the areas of military criminal law, military justice procedure, and administrative law.  Submissions for Marines in the grade of E-1 to E-3 must be emailed by their Legal Officer or Staff Noncommissioned Officer.
4.  To register for these courses, send your request to the Judge Advocate Division training sponsor via email at JPI@usmc.mil no later than five weeks prior to the date the course convenes.  Email requests must include the name, date, and location of the course requested in the subject line and the following student information in the body of the email:  rank, full name, billet or future billet (if applicable), billet description (why the Marine needs to attend the course), DoD ID number, phone number, email address, command, and command location.  Seats will be assigned about four weeks prior to the course convene date.  Requests for registration will be processed in the order in which they are received.
