GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  The purpose of this message is to solicit nominees for the Calendar Year (CY) 2021 DOD and Marine Corps Awards Program.
2.  Background.  The awards program recognizes accomplishments of the preceding calendar year (1 January through 31 December 2021).  This annual awards program recognizes FES, Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) and Expeditionary Firefighting Rescue (EFR) department of the year (small, medium, and large, ARFF and EFR categories), fire prevention program of the year, military and civilian firefighter of the year, fire officer of the year, fire service instructor of the year, and Emergency Medical Service provider of the year.
3.  Nominations.  Refer to REF B for awards criteria and submit the appropriate nomination packages for Installation\Region and\or unit Firefighting, ARFF or EFR individual or departments nominations NLT COB 7 February 2022.  Strict adherence to the formatting requirements provided in REF B is required for nomination packages to be considered.  Electronic submissions via e-mail to message points of contacts are requested. Hard copy packages are not required and should not be forwarded.
3.A.  Endorsements and Routing.  Nomination letter(s) from command, with chain of command endorsements, to include the first General Officer in the chain of command.  An endorsing cover letter must be submitted with each award nomination.  The endorsement letter must include the award category, the individual or unit/department being nominated, and the POC info for the nominating official.  The nominating official must electronically sign the cover letter.  Endorsements are not required at each echelon.  Nominations will be routed through the appropriate chain of command to the individuals listed in paragraph 3.B.
3.B.  Award Submissions. FES, ARFF and EFR award nomination packages shall be submitted to MCICOM (ACTING) FES Director, MGySgt Juan Espinosa, at JUAN.ESPINOSA@USMC.MIL.
4.  Award Selections.  HQMC IANDL (MCICOM G-3\5) will convene an awards review panel to select USMC winners for each category.  Award winners will be announced via separate correspondence on or about 15 March, 2022. USMC winners will be forwarded by HQMC to the Office of the Secretary of Defense to compete in the DOD Awards program per REF B.  Any USMC winners of DOD awards will be announced when the information is available.
5.  Awards Presentations.  USMC award presentations and any recipients of DOD awards will be formally recognized at their respective working group.
