GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. On 7 July 2022, the Commandant of the Marine Corps convened the FY23 Lieutenant Colonel Command Screening Board. The purpose of command screening is to ensure that Marines receive the best possible leadership and to provide all eligible officers with a fair and equitable opportunity to command. Two general officers and eighteen colonels screened the records of eligible lieutenant colonels and lieutenant colonels (sel) for assignment to 134 operating/supporting establishment commands. Billets considered will normally become available during the period of 1 June 2023 to 31 May 2024.
2. The board selected 134 officers as primaries for command. To accommodate the assignment process and the availability of individual officers, 68 officers were selected as alternates and found eligible for command by the board. The alternate list provides an adequate number of officers to meet the command requirements should an officer decline command or otherwise be unable to take command.
3. The quality of the Marines considered reaffirms that the Corps continues to produce and promote leaders of the highest caliber. The relatively small number of command billets available and the large number of eligible officers combine to make command selection an exceptionally competitive process.
4. The Commandant of the Marine Corps has approved the following:

7. Coordinating instructions.
7.a. Officers slated to command will schedule their attendance to the Cornerstone: Commandant's Combined Commandership Program prior to, or shortly after, assuming command. The program consists of two courses conducted concurrently aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico: a ten-day commanders course and a five-day spouses workshop. These courses are conducted semiannually. FY23 courses will be announced via MARADMIN. The point of contact (POC) for the Cornerstone course is the Marine Corp University Professional Programs office which may be reached at DSN 432-9753 or commercial (703) 784-9753/(703) 784-4684, or via email at MCU_LLI@USMCU.EDU. 7.b. Officers slated for Ground Combat Element (GCE) commands are encouraged to attend the four-day GCE Commanders Course (GCECC) prior to, or within the first six months of assuming command. GCECC is a four day, operationally focused command preparation course to better ready GCE commanders to lead, train, and tactically employ their battalions and regiments in the context of Maneuver Warfare in support of the Marine Air Ground Task Force. Marine Corps Tactics and Operations Group (MCTOG) conducts the course semiannually. A separate MARDMIN will announce FY23 course dates. Course attendance is unit funded. 7.c. Officers slated for Logistics Combat Element (LCE) commands are encouraged to attend the Logistics Commanders Course (LCC) prior to, or within the first six months of assuming command. The LCC is designed to cover topics unique to readiness, training, and leadership of logistics units. Marine Corps Logistics Operations Group (MCLOG) conducts the training annually. A separate MARADMIN will announce FY23 course dates. Course attendance is unit funded. The POC for the LCC is Maj Antonio Cillo, MLCOG Operations Officer at (760) 830-0474 or email: antonio.j.cillo@usmc.mil.
