GENTEXT/RMKS/1. This message solicits nominations for assignment as Assistant Drill Master, Marine Barracks Washington (MBW).
2. The Assistant Drill Master supervises the maintenance of ceremonial excellence for the Commandant of the Marine Corps (CMC) and the Commanding Officer, MBW. The Assistant Drill Master supports the Drill Master in ensuring the flawless ceremonial conduct of all funerals and memorial ceremonies in the National Capital Region (NCR), dignified transfers at Dover Air Force Base, and Marine Corps ceremonial commitments throughout the NCR. Further, as directed by the Drill Master, the Assistant Drill Master supervises the Marine Corps Color Sergeant and Color Guard activities, full honors arrivals, joint wreath laying ceremonies, street parades, Marine Corps birthday and cake cutting events, presidential cordons, Sunset and Evening Parades, and ceremonial duties in highly visible venues. The Assistant Drill Master supports the coordination of ceremonies and may be required to teach or supervise drill instruction to barracks personnel, maintain the barracks order on drill and ceremonies, and brief the CMC, Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps, Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, and general officers involved in NCR events.
3. Eligibility. Marines considered for this assignment must meet the following basic criteria
3.a. Hold the rank of Staff Sergeant. Gunnery Sergeants will be considered on a case by case basis.
3.b. Possess unquestionable moral character, superlative leadership, exceptional organizational skills, and the capacity to serve as an uncompromising example for others to emulate.
3.c. Be within height and weight standards and possess outstanding physical stamina and personal appearance. Preference will be given to male Marines between 72 and 76 inches in height and to female Marines 68 inches and above.
3.d. Per reference (a), nominees must extend or reenlist to meet a minimum 36 months of obligated service to receive orders to MBW. Assignment orders will reflect a 36-month assignment in an 8014 billet.
3.e. Per reference (b), nominees with prior Drill Instructor experience will receive special consideration; however, prior 0911 MOS experience is not a requirement. All nominated Marines should have a comprehensive understanding of Marine Corps drill and ceremonies.
3.f. Marines who have attended a formal military school in excess of 20 weeks, or are currently serving in a screenable billet outside of their MOS, will not be favorably considered until previous obligation has been served.
4. Nominations. Request commanders screen qualified volunteers and submit nomination packages to MBW not later than 3 November 2022 for screening selection.
4.a. Nominations are to include the commander's (O-5 level endorsed) letter of recommendation with the following enclosures: Basic Individual Record, Basic Training Record, Pages 11, UPB, Pages 13 of the Official Military Personnel File (OMPF), Master Brief Sheet, latest fitness report, professional resume, biography, and special duty assignment financial worksheet.
4.b. Finalists must attend a three-day selection process at MBW in November 2022 (travel date 20 November, screening from 21-23 November, return flights booked NET 1400 on 23 November).
4.c. MBW will assume responsibility for travel and associated TAD costs. Government quarters and messing are available.
4.d. Submit nominations to POC via e-mail. Ensure command point of contact information and commercial phone numbers are provided.
5. The Marine selected for assignment as Assistant Drill Master will report in May 2023. Upon permanent change of station to MBW, the Marine will attend a three-week ceremonial drill school, as well as hosting and docent classes located at MBW.
