GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  Purpose.  The purpose of this MARADMIN is to promulgate the intent to migrate Marine Corps Enterprise Network (MCEN) general purpose unclassified file storage and sharing services from on-premises services to enterprise cloud based office productivity services procured from the Department of the Navy Enterprise Software License Agreements in support of network modernization within reference (a).
2.  Background.  Implementation of the cloud-based enterprise office productivity and collaboration services has exposed new capabilities available to MCEN users that improve user experience, network performance, and cybersecurity.  These capabilities include cloud-based file storage capabilities (e.g., OneDrive, SharePoint Online (SPO), etc.) which replace legacy on-premise personal and community file storage capabilities historically provided by networked personal and organizational shared drives. Adoption of these new modern file storage capabilities will facilitate divestment of legacy networked drive technology and improve the cybersecurity posture of the Marine Corps.
3.  Action.
3.a.  No new investments in or purchases of unclassified on-premise MCEN general purpose networked shared drive capabilities are authorized.  Investments or purchases required to maintain file storage capabilities to support operation of local services within installation services nodes, special purpose processing nodes, or tactical processing nodes as defined in reference (b), require a request within the Information Technology Procurement Request and Approval System (ITPRAS) approved by the Deputy Department of the Navy Chief Information Officer (Marine Corps) in accordance with reference (c).
3.b.  Organizations and individuals who utilize unclassified MCEN general purpose networked personal and organizational shared drive services will prepare for migration through adoption and utilization of existing unclassified cloud-based personal and organizational file storage to the greatest extent possible.  Follow-on guidance concerning this migration planning and execution will be communicated via separate correspondence.
4.  Applicability.  This MARADMIN is applicable to the Total Force.
5.  Release authorized by LtGen M. G. Glavy, Headquarters Marine Corps, Deputy Commandant for Information.//
