POC/PRESIDENT OF THE SLATING BOARD/R. G. MCCARTHY/COLONEL/MMEA BRANCH HEAD/HQMC/-/TEL: 703-784-9216/
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  On 1 March 2023, the Branch Head of MMEA convened the 0399 key-billet slating board.  The purpose of this board was to serve as a proof of concept to determine how MMEA would standardize senior enlisted key billet assignments.  Over the last 12 months, MMEA, in-coordination with the infantry occupational field specialist and senior FMF and Supporting Establishment infantry leaders, has assessed that to place the most competitive 0399 in the right billet, a more professional and transparent slating process was required.  One Colonel and nine 0399 Master Gunnery Sergeants screened the records of eight 0399 Master Gunnery Sergeants for three billets.
2.  The board selected three 0399 Master Gunnery Sergeants for three billets.
3.  The quality of the Marines considered reaffirms that the infantry community continues to produce and promote leaders of the highest quality.  A competitive assignment process, that directly enhances the warfighting effectiveness of the unit, is a critical requirement to ensure MMEA assigns the right Marine, to the right billet, at the right time.
