GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  Purpose.  This MARADMIN serves to clarify and educate the force on the Expiration of Active Service (EAS) and Expiration of Current Contract (ECC) calculation for Active Duty (AD) Marine officers.  Marines are encouraged to understand the components of their record to include their service agreements and to continuously conduct self-audits to ensure all record information is accurate.  Marines are encouraged to understand how their EAS/ECC is calculated and ensure they are aware of their contractual obligations per their service agreements.
2.  Background.  As of Fiscal Year 2017 (FY17), AD Marine officer service agreements stipulate that a Marine officer’s EAS/ECC is calculated from the completion of Primary Military Occupational Specialty (PMOS) School (or upon being designated as a Naval Aviator in the case of Pilots).
3.  Currently, there is no mechanism to automatically update an officer’s EAS/ECC.  When an EAS/ECC is entered into an officer’s record upon accession, a placeholder date of four years from date of commissioning is used.  An audit and manual update is required for an officer’s EAS/ECC to be adjusted upon completion of PMOS school.  All Marine officers should understand their service agreement and that their EAS/ECC will be recalculated and updated to reflect the terms of their signed service agreement.
4.  Audits of service records are a normal function used to ensure all members are receiving proper pay and entitlements.  These audits are continuous and conducted at multiple levels.  Currently, Headquarters Marine Corps (MMOA-3) is conducting a force-wide audit of all non-career designated AC Marine officers based upon their source of entry code found in the Basic Individual Record (BIR) and their signed service agreements.
5.  AD Marine officers with an affected FY23 and FY24 EAS/ECC will receive a notification via Marine Online (MOL) within the next 24-48 hours with further information.
6.  Commands and individuals should contact the MMOA-3 POCs listed above with any questions.
7.  This MARADMIN is not applicable to the reserve component.
8.  Release authorized by MajGen Michael J. Borgschulte, Director, Manpower Management Division.//
