GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  On behalf of Marines around the globe I wish to congratulate the United States Army on its 248th birthday.
2.  Since 1775, generations of Soldiers and Marines have worked together to protect this great nation.  As national attention returns to the Pacific, the Marine Corps and Army remember World War II battles fought together in that theater 80 years ago.  At the Battle of Peleliu, Marine Private First Class Eugene B. Sledge wrote he, "felt a deep comradeship and respect for them," referring to the Soldiers that he fought alongside.  Our services share mutual respect for one another, and for our respective capabilities, born of a rich history of shared conflict.  The few and the proud are honored to serve with those committed to being all they can be, for a shared, greater good.
