SUBJ/ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE MARINE EXPEDITIONARY UNIT SYMPOSIUM 2023//

GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. Situation. Commandant of the marine corps memorandum dated 20 February 2020 directed Deputy Commandant for Combat Development and Integration (DC, CD&I) as the Element in Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC) responsible for requirements development. In place of the Marine Expeditionary Unit Operational Advisory Group (MEU OAG), DC CD&I has established the Marine Expeditionary Unit Symposium (MEUSYMP) as a collaborative forum for Amphibious Ready Groups (ARG) and MEU community of interest to identify capability gaps, exchange best practices/lessons learned, as well as engage with higher level headquarters on evolving concepts, programs, and capabilities.
2. Mission. The MEUSYMP will be conducted 7-8 August 2023 at the General Raymond G. Davis center (Bldg 3300) aboard Marine Corps Base (MCB) Quantico.
3. Execution. The MEUSYMP will be conducted in person and broadcast via Secure Video Teleconference (SVTC). Plenary/level setting HQMC briefings will be conducted the first half of day one followed by Operating Force (OPFOR) briefings. Day two will continue with OPFOR briefings for the first half of the day, followed by discussion and working groups after lunch.
3.a. Concept of operations:
3.a.1. Plenary topics will consist of an overview of lessons learned in Amphibious Operations from the Marine Corps Center for Lessons Learned followed by Maritime Expeditionary Warfare Division level setting.
3.a.2. OPFOR briefs will consist of the following: current/planned Deployments and Operations, Amphibious Warfare shipping in support of the MEU, Ship to Shore Maneuver, and working group topics for the MEUSYMP. An official tasker with coordinating instructions will be dispatched in the Department Of Navy Electronic Task Management System 2 (DON ETMS2) to the requested briefing participants.
3.a.3. The following working groups will convene to develop and propose solutions to pressing challenges facing sea-based Expeditionary Forces: Executive working group, Operations working group, Logistics working group, Afloat C5I working group, and Combat Cargo working group.
4. Administration and Logistics:

4.b. Travel funding is the responsibility of the attending Command.
4.c. Lodging is available aboard MCB Quantico and in the local vicinity.

4.d.2. Overall classification for this event is up to SECRET/FVEY.
