SUBJ/NATIONAL VOLUNTEER MONTH//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  Volunteers uphold the Marine Corps' service legacy.  Volunteerism enhances social fitness by promoting opportunities to foster community connections and resilience for our Marines and their families.  In April 2024, we celebrate National Volunteer Month and the spirit of giving back.
2.  National Volunteer Month is the time of year the Marine Corps uses to recognize those who have shown selfless volunteer service, as well as the opportunity we take to invite others to become engaged and more familiar with the benefits of volunteering.  The Volunteer Management Program and the Single Marine Program (SMP) work throughout the year to provide rewarding, community focused volunteer opportunities to anyone interested in volunteering.  In celebration of these combined efforts, there are volunteer opportunities and volunteer recognition events across the Marine Corps.  The rich legacy of exceptional service that embodies the Corps will be on full display.
3.  Commanders and leaders are encouraged to support the 10th annual SMP Days of Service events scheduled for 22 April 2024 through 27 April 2024.  All commands are invited to participate with the emphasis on allowing single Marines and Sailors the opportunity to enhance leadership skills and support their communities.
4.  I encourage commands to support installation activities and events hosted by the Volunteer Management Program, focusing on volunteer recognition and appreciation.  Recognizing volunteers inspires others to serve, and benefits Marine Corps installations and their supporting communities.  For event details, contact the Installation Volunteer Coordinator or SMP Coordinator.
5.  Reflecting on altruistic service to our nation, the Marine Corps has much to be proud of.  Volunteers represent the best of us.  Trish and I salute the contributions of volunteers and extend a heartfelt "Thank You" to each and every one.
6.  Semper Fidelis, Eric M. Smith, General, U.S. Marine Corps, Commandant of the Marine Corps.//
