GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  Pride Month is celebrated each year in the month
of June, and during this month we take the opportunity to recognize
the contributions of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer
or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual and more (LGBTQIA+) service
members.  More information may be found at
https:(slash)(slash)www.defenseculture.mil/special-observances/.
2.  The celebration of Pride Month is held in June each year to
honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, New York.  This
uprising served as the catalyst for the gay rights movement in the
Unites States and around the world.  Consisting of parties, parades,
and the sharing of food, this month-long celebration serves to
create an environment of inclusion.
3.  In the past and today, LGBTQIA+ Marines have served and fought
valiantly for our Nation.  Their readiness and willingness to serve
make our Corps stronger and the nation safer.  Throughout Pride
Month, we recognize the LGBTQIA+ Marines and their contributions to
the Corps as their hard work, courage, and determination are part
of the success of our team.  The Marine Corps continues to focus on
lethality and readiness derived from the strength of an inclusive
culture.  We also remain dedicated to promoting a professional
environment, free from personal, social, or institutional obstacles,
that enables and encourages all Marines to achieve their full
potential.
4.  During this observance month, commanders are encouraged to
recognize and celebrate the invaluable service and selfless
contributions of military and civilian LGBTQIA+ to our country and
Corps.  Commanders are further encouraged to conduct programs and
promote participation in observance events within their commands
and across their local communities.
5.  The Marine Corps is dedicated to serving in accordance with the
values we defend by standardizing dignity and respect towards all
people, no matter what immutable characteristics they possess.  With
steadfast promotion of a professional environment, free from social
or institutional barriers, we create an atmosphere for Marines to
realize and embrace their full potential.
6.  Release authorized by Brigadier General David R. Everly,
Director, Manpower Plans and Policy Division, Manpower and Reserve
Affairs.//
