GENTEXT/REMARKS/
1. Purpose. The Deputy Commandant for Information (DC I) takes pleasure in announcing the winners of the Spring 2024 Cyber Capture the Flag (CTF) competition. DC I, in partnership with the Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWC), the National Cyber Range and under the DoD Test Management Resource Center conducted a remote CTF event with secure access provided through the Joint Information Operations Range (JIOR). 
2. Background. From 29 April to 14 May 2024, DC I hosted a remote, Service-wide Capture the Flag competition. Participation in this event was open to Servicemembers and DoD Civilians from across the Cyber Mission Force including Reserve components. The CTF competition provided a venue where Marine cyberspace operators could compete in a tailored scenario to complete cyber challenges of varying difficulty, referred to as cyber flags. Teams in a simulated contested environment were given 24 hours over a two-day period to obtain cyber flags of varying levels of difficulty ranging from Apprentice, Journeyman, and Master. 
2.A. Command Representation. Six Marine teams participated in the CTF from the following units: MARFORCYBER, 6TH Communications Battalion (6TH COMM) B Company, Marine Cyber Assessment Branch (MCAB) of the Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity, 9TH COMM BN I Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) Defensive Cyberspace Operations-Internal Defensive Measures (DCO-IDM) (two teams), 6TH COMM B Company, and 701 Cyber Protection Team from Marine Corps Cyberspace Operations Battalion (MCCOB). 
2.B. Winning Team. The top Marine Corps team is “CTRL+ALT+DEFEAT” representing MARFORCYBER. The MCCOB and I MEF DCO-IDM Company were the runner up Marine teams. Additionally, the MARFORCYBER team 
placed first overall, and the MCCOB team placed third overall. The following Marines competed on team CTRL+ALT+DEFEAT:  CWO2 Thomas ‘Zac’ Stevens, MSgt Igor Dunayevskiy, SSgt John T. Kinsey, Sgt Colin P. Gabbard, Sgt Tyler J. Gibson, Sgt Timothy A. Kemp Jr., Sgt Christopher W. Lomas, Sgt Scott C. Zanichelli, CWT2 Thomas M. Condon, CWT2 Tristan Fortin, Cpl Jacob C. Watkins, Cpl John T. Whiffen, CIV Nathan A. Emberson, and CIV Adam M. Meston.
