GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  This MARADMIN aims to solicit nominations for
the 2024 Association of Naval Services Officers (ANSO) Leadership
Awards, presented by ANSO during the 2024 ANSO Western Region
Symposium.
2.  The ANSO Leadership Awards recognize the achievements of sea
service members (including students in the United States (U.S.)
Service Academies) and Civilian Marines who embody high
professional standards and uphold the ANSO core values of
leadership, excellence, and dedication in their commands and local
communities.  ANSO is a non-federal entity wholly independent of
the Marine Corps.
3.  ANSO Leadership Awards Information.  The ANSO Leadership Awards
are a testament to our commitment to inclusivity and equality.
They are open to all Marines, Sailors, and Civilian Marines,
regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or sexual
orientation.  The ANSO Leadership Awards website contains
additional information about the awards: https:(slash)(slash)
www.ansomil.org/anso-honors-and-awards/.
3.a.  The “El Buen Timonel”/”Good Helmsman” Award for Outstanding
Leadership.  This award is presented to junior enlisted Marines or
Sailors (E-3 to E-6) and current cadets and midshipmen enrolled at
U.S. Service Academies.  The award recognizes the leadership
demonstrated by the individual as a “Good Helmsman” or
“Buen Timonel” by displaying high professional standards in their
line of service, maintaining personal toughness and readiness, and
generous mentorship to all ranks, as well as our youth.
3.b.  The “La Cresta De La Ola”/”The Crest of the Wave” Award for
Persistent Commitment to Excellence.  This award is presented to
active duty and reserve junior officers (O-1 to O-4) and Civilian
Marines (GS-5 to GS-12).  The award recognizes the continuous
commitment to personal and professional excellence, embody command
readiness, and actively involved in ANSO’s mission.  Nominees for
this award are change agents ready to incorporate process
improvement initiatives to increase the lethality of our force.
3.c.  The “Pensar Mas Alla”/”Thinking Outside the Box” Award for
Innovation in the Art of War.  This award is presented to active
duty and reserve Marines or Sailors who display a spirit of
innovation reflected in better thinking inside (leveraging given
resources) and outside (recognizing better ways to implement
resources and modify) the box.  The award celebrates the innovating
drive common in the Hispanic American mindset and closely connected
to the American spirit.
3.d.  The “Primera Clase”/”First Rate” Award for Excellence in
Operational Competence.  This award is presented to active duty and
reserve service members who display problem solving abilities and
represent our core values, exemplifying strong operational planning
and problem solving skills in the execution of respective duties.
The term “First Rate” denotes excellence and was attributed to the
ships with the most capabilities and outstanding performance during
maritime battles.
