SUBJ/UNITED STATES ARMY 250TH BIRTHDAY//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  In this momentous year of the 250th birthday of
the United States Marine Corps, I extend a congratulations to the
United States Army on the occasion of its 250th birthday. 
2.  On 14 June 1775, the Continental Congress passed a resolution
establishing the Continental Army.  Since then, Soldiers of every 
generation have exhibited courage on the battlefield and unfailing
devotion to duty when serving our great Nation.  U.S. Marines have 
had the privilege of shouldering arms with the Army for every major
conflict the country has faced.  This year marks numerous examples of
Soldiers and Marines serving alongside each other, from the 80th
anniversary of the Battle of Okinawa and the 75th anniversary of the
Pusan Perimeter to the 60th anniversary of Soldiers and Marines
executing the first combat operations in South Vietnam, and the 15th
anniversary of Operation Moshtarak in Afghanistan, the Army has
always stood strong.  
3.  Throughout, Soldiers and Marines have maintained a deep 
comradeship when defending the Nation and its ideals together.
The U.S. Army's two-and-a-half centuries of proud heritage is the
foundation to the history of the United States.  We are proud to 
serve alongside you.
