1. The military occupational specialties (MOSs) detailed below were
created and approved in support of the Inspector General of the
Marine Corps (IGMC) Program.
2. Background. In accordance with ref (a), the IGMC submitted the
below MOS codes for approval. The personnel, organization, and
training (POT) pillars of the doctrine, organization, training,
materiel, leadership, personnel, facilities, and cost working group
thoroughly reviewed these requested changes and unanimously
recommended that the Commanding General (CG) Training and Education
Command (TECOM) create MOS codes 8049 and 8050. These new MOS codes
are contained in the FY26 MOS Manual and are available as a Free MOS
(FMOS) to those Marines who meet the requirements outlined below.
3. MOS 8049, Inspector General Officer (Col to 2ndLt) FMOS
3.a. Summary. Inspector General (IG) Officers promote Marine Corps
institutional effectiveness, efficiency, discipline, morale, and
combat readiness through impartial and independent inspections,
assessments, investigations, and training. They are responsible for
all credible complaints of fraud, waste, abuse of authority, and
mismanagement. IG Officers are integral to the Marine Corps
IG Program that is composed of the IGMC, Command Inspectors General
(CIGs), and their respective staff. IG Officers act in an
independent and professional manner, without command influence,
pressure, or fear of retaliation from any level within the Marine
Corps. IG Officers have acquired subject matter expertise in IG
functions through personal experience and formal training. They are
currently serving, or have served, in an IG-related billet during
their career. IG Officers have also received certification from the
Office of the IGMC validating that they have achieved competency in
accomplishing IG functions and responsibilities as outlined in MCO
5430.1, such as facilitating an IG hotline program, managing an IG
inspections program, and providing oversight to Marine Corps
organizations.
3.b. Prerequisites. (1) Must not have been relieved for cause from
an IG billet; (2) Must pass an initial IGMC records screen for
assignment to an IG billet; and (3) Must possess an active secret
security clearance.
3.c. Requirements. Marine officers are awarded this MOS after
(1) Completion of the IGMC 101 Course (School Service Code (SSC)
-0AV); (2) Completion of the IGMC Advance Course via mobile training
team (MTT) or virtual training team (VTT) (SSC-0AW); (3) Assigned to
a billet for a minimum of six months at IGMC or a CIG office
directly performing IG duties and responsibilities as outlined in
the most recent version of MCO 5430.1. The certifying authority for
this MOS is the IGMC; Marines will submit requests for this FMOS to
a servicing IPAC with an endorsement from IGMC.
3.d. Duties. (1) Provide independent and impartial oversight of unit
functions in order to sustain a high level of institutional
readiness across the Service and prevent fraud, waste, abuse, and
mismanagement; (2) Facilitate the execution of IG-related programs,
such as assistance and hotline, inspections, investigations,
intelligence oversight, and analysis and evaluations; (3) Provide
feedback to unit command teams regarding program trends,
inefficiencies, and recommendations; (4) Report the state of unit
effectiveness, efficiency, discipline, economy, ethics, integrity,
and readiness to command teams; and (5) Become an expert on IG
functions and responsibilities and advise both unit commanders and
staff on IG-related matters.
4. MOS 8050, Inspector General Professional (MGySgt to LCpl) FMOS
4.a. Summary. IG Professionals promote Marine
Corps institutional effectiveness, efficiency, discipline, morale,
and combat readiness through impartial and independent inspections,
assessments, investigations, and training. They are responsible for
all credible complaints of fraud, waste, abuse of authority, and
mismanagement. IG Professionals are integral to the Marine Corps
IG Program that is comprised of IGMC, CIGs, and their respective
staff. IG Professionals act in an independent and professional
manner, without command influence, pressure, or fear of retaliation
from any level within the Marine Corps. IG Professionals have
acquired subject matter expertise in IG functions through personal
experience and formal training. They are currently serving, or have
served, in an IG-related billet during their career. IG
Professionals have also received certification from the Office of
the IGMC validating that they have achieved competency in
accomplishing IG functions and responsibilities as outlined in MCO
5430.1, such as facilitating an IG hotline program, managing an IG
inspections program, and providing oversight to Marine Corps
organizations.

5. NOTE: Marines who only support IG functions as an inspector for
either IGMC's inspection program or a Commanding General's
inspections program are ineligible for either IG MOS.
6. Marines who meet the eligibility requirements laid out in either
paragraphs 3 or 4 of this MARADMIN are directed to submit an
electronic personnel action request (EPAR) to their servicing IPAC
for awarding of these FMOSs no earlier than 1 Oct 2025. The EPAR
text should read: “IAW NAVMC 1200.1L, I meet the requirements for
the [80XX] FMOS and request this FMOS be added to my record. I have
attached the IGMC certification letter for this FMOS.”
6.a. Present members of the USMC IG Enterprise will upload course
completion dates to the IGMC SharePoint site and request a
certification letter from IGMC for upload to their EPAR. The IGMC
SharePoint site is at: https://usmc.sharepoint-mil.us/sites/igmc/
tracker/SitePages/USMC-IG-Enterprise-Database.aspx. IG Professionals
should also upload certificates/data of any additional IG related
training to the IGMC SharePoint site.
6.b. Past members of the USMC IG Enterprise will send proof of
training completion via email to:
igmcadminsupportdivision@usmc.onmicrosoft.com.
Proof of training completion includes copies of completion
certificates for IGMC 101 and an IGMC-run MTT or VTT in addition to
proof of previous service in the IG Enterprise (e.g., Chronological
Record, Fitness Report Page 1, Section A).
6.c. Upon verifying that a Marine has met all requirements for
either IG MOS, IGMC will send that individual a certification letter
via email for upload to their EPAR.
