GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. The purpose of this MARADMIN is to provide
guidance for the Fiscal Year 2026 Senior Leader Legal Course (SLLC).
2. Course Description. The SLLC is a three-day course covering
topics such as: investigations, Article 31(b) rights, non-punitive
measures, nonjudicial punishment, administrative separations,
officer misconduct, government ethics, gifts, fundraising, military
justice, sexual harassment, sexual assault, legal assistance,
overseas legal issues, freedom of expression, political activities,
religious accommodation, grievances/FOIA, civilian personnel law,
and reserve personnel law.
3. Travel, lodging, and per diem costs will be the responsibility
of individual commands. Virtual courses are free to attend. For
either in-person or virtual offerings, full attendance is required
to receive course completion credit for each course.
4. Eligibility. While not required training, the SLLC is designed
to prepare command leadership teams for the legal issues they will
likely encounter. The eligible population for this course includes
executive officers, senior enlisted leaders / advisors, and those
commanders not eligible to attend the Commandant’s Combined
Commandership Course (Cornerstone). O-5 and O-6 board-selected
commanders are expected to receive the requisite legal instruction
for their command tours while attending Cornerstone; accordingly,
while they may attend SLLC, they are not the target population for
this course.
5. Registration requests. Registration requests for this course
must be sent to JPI_Courses@usmc.mil no later than six weeks prior
to the date the course convenes. Email requests must include the
date and location of the course requested in the subject line and
the following student information in the body of the email: Rank,
full name, billet or future billet (if applicable), billet
description (why the Marine needs to attend the course), DOD ID
number, phone number, email address, command, and command location.
