SUBJ/UNITED STATES AIR FORCE 78TH BIRTHDAY//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  On behalf of the United States Marine Corps, I 
salute the United States Air Force on the occasion of its 78th 
anniversary.
2.  Since its founding on 18 September 1947, the Air Force has been a
steadfast partner in the defense of our Nation, delivering decisive
power from the skies, dominating across domains, and providing the
joint force with the asymmetric edge we rely on.
3.  Our partnership has been forged in combat.  During the Chosin 
Reservoir campaign in the Korean War, Air Force C-119 Flying Boxcars 
dropped desperately needed supplies to Marines in subzero
conditions, often under fire.  In the Vietnam War, Marines and
Airmen worked side-by-side conducting joint operations by
coordinating close air support and executing search and
rescue missions.  In the sands of Iraq and the mountains of
Afghanistan, the partnership continued, with Air Force
intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance assets providing
critical information in support of Marine combat operations. 
4.  Today, Marines around the globe recognize the United States Air 
Force's 78 years of distinguished service and sacrifice. Our shared 
warfighting ethos, commitment to joint excellence, and legacy of 
victory strengthens our enduring bonds.
