MSGID/GENADMIN/CMC WASHINGTON DC//
SUBJ/2D MARINE DIVISION ANNIVERSARY//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. On behalf of Marines and Sailors everywhere, I
congratulate 2d Marine Division on 85 years of shaping the
character and combat reputation of our Corps. Since its formation
in 1941, the division has answered the Nation's call with resolve,
discipline, and unmistakable fighting spirit. For generations, it
has played a decisive role across multiple eras of conflict, from
hard-fought amphibious operations in the Pacific to rapid maneuver
in the Middle East and sustained engagement in complex, urban and
expeditionary environments. Its Marines and Sailors have set the
standard for combined arms proficiency, resilience under pressure,
and unwavering commitment to accomplishing the mission.
2. Today, 2d Marine Division continues to strengthen that
legacy through focused, modern warfighting preparation. Its units
are engaged in naval integration initiatives, distributed operations
training, and multi-domain exercises with joint and allied partners.
Guided by its motto, "Follow Me," the division is refining
small-unit agility, enhancing sensing and fires at range, and
building cohesive, combat-credible teams ensuring it remains
prepared for the challenges ahead. All these efforts guarantee
that 2d Marine Division remains ready to deter aggression, respond
to crises, and prevail in contested maritime and littoral
environments.
3. As the Marine Corps marks its 250th year, the history and
current readiness of 2d Marine Division reminds us that our strength
lies in disciplined warfighters and leaders who adapt, innovate, and
stand ready to fight tonight. The division’s performance today
reflects the same qualities that carried it through decades of
service: professionalism, toughness, and an unbreakable bond among
Marines and Sailors. To all who serve, have served, and support
2d Marine Division, thank you for sustaining this exceptional legacy
and for your continued dedication to the defense of our Nation.
4. Semper Fidelis, Eric M. Smith, General, U.S. Marine Corps,
Commandant of the Marine Corps.//
