MSGID/GENADMIN/CMC WASHINGTON DC//
SUBJ/1ST MARINE DIVISION ANNIVERSARY//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. To the Marines and Sailors of 1st Marine
Division, congratulations on the 85th anniversary of the Corps’ most
storied division. From its establishment in 1941, the Blue Diamond
has met every call with the same tenacity and discipline that have
defined Marines for generations, from storming beaches and enduring
frozen battlefields, clearing dense cities and meeting the
demands of every domain.
2. This year holds special significance as the Marine Corps enters
Its 250th year. A quarter-millennium of service to the American
People have proven one constant truth: when the Nation needs a force
that is ready, fights relentlessly, and adapts to any challenge, it
turns to the United States Marines. 1st Marine Division has
embodied that truth from Guadalcanal and Chosin to Fallujah,
Helmand, and beyond. As we honor the Corps’ historic milestone, the
division’s record reminds us that our legacy is not merely
inherited, it is earned anew every day.
3. Today’s Blue Diamond team carries this heritage with
professionalism and resolve. Whether deployed across Indo-Pacific
littorals, refining integrated maritime operations, or sustaining
readiness at home station, your example reinforces the standards we
expect of our Marines. As future challenges grow, 1st Marine
Division’s fighting spirit will continue to rise to meet them. Take
pride in the division’s achievements, honor the sacrifice of those
who secured its reputation, and recommit yourselves to the high
expectations that come with wearing the patch of 1st Marine
Division. In this 250th year of our Corps, your dedication assures
that the next chapter will be worthy of those that came before.
Happy Anniversary, Blue Diamond!
