RMKS/1.  EFFECTIVE 9 FEBRUARY 1998, TOTAL FORCE RETENTION SYSTEM WILL
BE USED FOR ALL REGULAR AND RESERVE COMPONENTS.  ALL CAREER
PLANNERS WILL BEGIN PROCESSING REGULAR MARINES REENLISTMENT,
EXTENSION AND LATERAL MOVE (RELM) REQUESTS ON THE TOTAL FORCE
RETENTION SYSTEM (TFRS) ON 9 FEBRUARY 1998.
2.  ALL CAREER PLANNERS ATTENDING CAREER PLANNING SCHOOL IN
QUANTICO, VA HAVE BEEN INSTRUCTED ON TFRS SINCE 1 OCTOBER 1997.
IN JUNE 1997 AT THE CAREER PLANNERS CONFERENCE, MAJOR
COMMAND NCOICS WERE ALSO TRAINED.  ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE IS
AVAILABLE BY CONTACTING MMEA-5 AT COMMERCIAL (703) 614-7802 OR DSN
224-7802 AND ALSO THE HELP LINE ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB.  THE TFRS
PAGE CAN BE ACCESSED VIA THE ENLISTED ASSIGNMENT HOME PAGE AT
WWW.HQMC.USMC.MIL/MMEA1.NSF.
3.  THE CAREER PLANNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (CPMS) WILL BE ACTIVE
UNTIL JUNE 1998 IN ORDER TO PROCESS RELM REQUESTS SUBMITTED
PRIOR TO FEBRUARY 1998.  TFRS IS SCHEDULED TO REPLACE ALL
RETENTION RELATED REQUESTS AS OF 9 FEBRUARY 1998 AND CAREER
PLANNERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT ALL REQUESTS VIA THE TOTAL
FORCE RETENTION SYSTEM NETWORK.
4.  CAREER PLANNERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO UTILIZE THE ASSISTANCE/
SUGGESTIONS ICON AVAILABLE ON THE TFRS NETWORK, FOR TROUBLE
SHOOTING ANY SYSTEM ISSUES, AS WELL AS THE TFRS ON-LINE HELP AND
TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE ON THE TFRS WORLD WIDE WEB PAGE.
5.  IF ATTEMPTS TO SUBMIT RELMS THROUGH TFRS ARE UNSUCCESSFUL,
REQUESTS FOR RETENTION RELATED MATTERS CAN BE SUBMITTED VIA NAVAL
MESSAGE.  CAREER PLANNERS MUST IMMEDIATELY CONTACT CAPT
MACFARLANE (MMEA-5) AT COMMERCIAL (703) 614-7802 OR DSN 224-7802, IF
TFRS REQUESTS CANNOT BE SUBMITTED.
6.  SUCCESSFUL IMPLEMENTATION IS DEPENDENT UPON EVERY CAREER
PLANNER OR THEIR RESPECTIVE CMD SUBMITTING AT LEAST ONE TEST
RELM BY 30 JANUARY 1998.  AS OF 12 JANUARY 1998, THE FOLLOWING
MCC'S HAVE SUBMITTED A TEST RELM THAT HAS BEEN RECEIVED BY
