SUBJ/INDEPENDENCE DAY MESSAGE//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. AS WE CELEBRATE THE BIRTH OF OUR NATION AND OUR
230TH YEAR OF INDEPENDENCE, WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO REFLECT ON
THE SERVICE AND SELFLESS SACRIFICE OF THE GENERATIONS WHO HAVE
DEFENDED THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM IN THE HOMELAND AND ON FOREIGN SOIL.
THEY ARE A SOURCE OF PRIDE AND CONFIDENCE FOR AMERICANS AND HOPE FOR
PEOPLE SEEKING LIBERTY EVERYWHERE. WHEN CRISIS ARISES, OUR WARRIORS
ARE ALWAYS READY, RELEVANT, AND CAPABLE.
2. ON THIS SPECIAL DAY, I THANK ALL MARINES AND THEIR FAMILIES FOR
YOUR SERVICE AND SACRIFICE. YOU ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF WHAT MAKES
THIS COUNTRY GREAT. TAKE CARE OF ONE ANOTHER AS WE CELEBRATE OUR
NATION'S BIRTHDAY.
3. SEMPER FIDELIS. M. W. HAGEE, GENERAL, U.S. MARINE CORPS,
COMMANDANT OF THE MARINE CORPS.
