GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. THE PURPOSE OF THIS MESSAGE IS TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND ADMIN INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE 2009 USMC CPI SYMPOSIUM.
2. THE USMC CPI SYMPOSIUM WILL CONVENE FROM 18-20 AUG 2009 (17 AUG AND 21 AUG 09 ARE TRAVEL DATES) AT THE CLUBS AT QUANTICO, VA. MARINE CORPS ORGANIZATIONS ACTIVELY IMPLEMENTING CPI ARE ENCOURAGED TO SEND THEIR LEADING CPI PRACTITIONERS AS REPRESENTATIVES.
3. AGENDA.
A. THE 2009 SYMPOSIUM WILL FOCUS ON THE KEY FACTORS FOR SUCCESSFUL DEPLOYMENT OF CPI IN MARINE CORPS ORGANIZATIONS AND WILL FEATURE RECOGNIZED SPEAKERS, TRAINING SESSIONS, PRESENTATIONS AND BRIEFINGS BY SUCCESSFUL USMC LEADERS AND PRACTITIONERS, AND VARIOUS GROUP EVENTS TO FOSTER NETWORKING AND KNOWLEDGE SHARING.
B. CPI SYMPOSIUM CHECK-IN WILL BE IN THE OFFICERS' CLUB FOYER OUTSIDE THE WALLER ROOM ON 17 AUG 2009 FROM 1400-1930 AND 18 AUG 2009 FROM 0700-0830.
C. AN ICE BREAKER SOCIAL WILL BE HELD ON 17 AUG 2009 FROM 1800-1930 AT THE OFFICERS' CLUB. DRESS FOR ICE BREAKER SOCIAL IS CIVILIAN CASUAL.
D. A GROUP PHOTO WILL BE TAKEN ON 18 AUG 2009 DURING THE MORNING SESSION.
E. THE SYMPOSIUM WILL ALSO INCLUDE PRESENTATION OF THE FIRST ANNUAL USMC CPI EXCELLENCE AWARDS TO INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS FOR NOTEWORTHY ACHIEVEMENTS IN CPI. AWARDS WILL BE PRESENTED AT AN EVENING AWARDS DINNER ON 20 AUG 2009. THE AWARDS DINNER IS THE ONLY SCHEDULED OFFICIAL EVENING EVENT OF THE SYMPOSIUM AND THE SYMPOSIUM WILL OFFICIALLY CONCLUDE AT THE END OF THE AWARDS DINNER.

INFORMAL BUSINESS SUIT FOR EVENING AWARDS DINNER ON 20 AUG 09 (CIVILIAN MALE - COAT AND TIE, CIVILIAN FEMALE - LADIES SUIT/BUSINESS APPAREL).
5. 2009 USMC CPI PROJECT AWARDS.
A. SEVERAL AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN TO CPI PROJECTS THAT WILL BE SELECTED BY ATTENDEES FROM PROJECT STORYBOARDS DISPLAYED AT THE SYMPOSIUM. PRACTITIONERS AND ORGANIZATIONS ARE ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT THEIR BEST PROJECT STORYBOARDS AND COMPETE FOR THE PROJECT AWARDS.  
B. PROJECT VOTING WILL BE BASED ON THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
(1) OVERALL QUALITY OF THE ANALYSIS, TO INCLUDE CUSTOMER FOCUS, PROJECT CHARTER, ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS, USE OF ANALYTICAL TOOLS AND METHODS, AND PRESENTATION OF THE PROJECT ON STORYBOARD.
(2) METRICS USED INCLUDING PROCESS METRICS SUCH AS CYCLE TIME, COST, QUALITY, AND OTHER OUTPUT METRICS. 
(3) PROJECT RESULTS INCLUDING PROCESS CONTROL METRICS THAT WILL SUSTAIN THE GAIN AND FINANCIAL VALIDATION OF BENEFITS. 
C. PROJECT STORYBOARDS THAT WON AWARDS AT THE 2008 DON CPI/LSS CONFERENCE IN CHARLESTON, SC ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO COMPETE.
D. STORYBOARD FORMAT GUIDANCE WILL BE PROVIDED BY SEPARATE COMMUNICATION TO THE ORGANIZATIONS LISTED IN PARA 7 BELOW.
E. ORGANIZATIONS SUBMITTING STORYBOARDS SHOULD NOTIFY TRISTEN KRUG (E-MAIL: TRISTEN.KRUG@USMC.MIL, COML (703)614-4760/2644) NLT 24 JUL 2009 AND PROVIDE AN ELECTRONIC VERSION NLT COB 29 JUL 2009.
6. LODGING.
A. THE CPI PROGRAM OFFICE HAS RESERVED BLOCKS OF ROOMS AT THE CROSSROADS INN AND LIVERSEDGE HALL AND WILL FUND LODGING AND MEALS DURING THE PERIOD OF THE SYMPOSIUM FOR OUT-OF-TOWN ATTENDEES. SEE PARA 8 BELOW FOR DETAILS.  THE CPI PROGRAM OFFICE WILL MAKE ROOM RESERVATIONS FOR THE ATTENDEES IDENTIFIED BY EACH ORGANIZATION.
B. GOVERNMENT TRANSPORATION WILL BE PROVIDED FOR THOSE STAYING AT LIVERSEDGE. THE CPI PROGRAM OFFICE WILL CONTACT ATTENDEES STAYING AT LIVERSEDGE TO DETERMINE WHO WILL NEED GOVERNMENT TRANSPORTATION.

ATTENDEES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL OTHER LODGING, PERDIEM, AND TRAVEL EXPENSES INCLUDING TRAVEL TO AND FROM THE SYMPOSIUM, RENTAL CARS, LONG DISTANCE PHONE CALLS, AND ANY PERSONAL CHARGES TO THEIR ROOM.  CONTACT TRISTEN KRUG IF THERE ANY QUESTIONS ON HOW TO ENTER INTO DTS.
9. COORDINATING INSTRUCTIONS.
A. PLEASE PROVIDE THE HEIGHT OF EACH ATTENDEE.  THIS INFORMATION IS NEEDED FOR STAGING THE GROUP PHOTO ON 18 AUG 2009.
B. IN ADDITION TO YOUR RSVP PLEASE INFORM THE CPI PROGRAM OFFICE OF ANY SPECIAL ASSISTANCE, MEDICAL CONCERNS, ANY ALLERGIES, OR DIETARY RESTRICTIONS.
