GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. REF A ANNOUNCED THE NEW MISSION OF THE FIELD
SUPPLY AND MAINTENANCE ANALYSIS OFFICE (FSMAO) PROGRAM. THE NEW
MISSION IS TO ANALYZE AND FACILITATE THE APPLICATION OF BEST
OPERATIONAL PRACTICES IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THE EFFECTIVENESS AND
EFFICIENCY OF EXISTING AND EMERGING INTEGRATED LOGISTICS CHAIN
PROCESSES IN SUPPORT OF MAGTF WARFIGHTING CAPABILITIES.
2. THE NAME "FSMAO" IS NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE ENTIRE LOGISTICS
CHAIN, NOR DOES IT LEND ITSELF TO THE PARADIGM SHIFT AWAY FROM
POLICY COMPLIANCE AND CHECKLIST-BASED ANALYSES. RECOMMENDATIONS
FOR A MORE APPROPRIATE NAME REFLECTIVE OF THE NEW MISSION WERE
SOLICITEDFROM THE OPERATING FORCES AND SUPPORTING ESTABLISHMENT.
3. EFFECTIVE 1 APRIL 03, FSMAO WILL BE RENAMED AS THE MARINE CORPS
LOGISTICS CHAIN ANALYSIS TEAM (MCLCAT) AS FOLLOWS:
A. MCLCAT (EAST) FORMERLY KNOWN AS FSMAO-1.
B. MCLCAT (WEST) FORMERLY KNOWN AS FSMAO-2.
C. MCLCAT (WESTPAC) FORMERLY KNOWN AS FSMAO-3.
4. OPERATIONAL CONTROL, COMMAND RELATIONSHIPS, TECHNICAL DIRECTION,
AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY REMAIN AS OUTLINED IN REF B.//
