GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. AT OUR BASES AND STATIONS, HEALTH AND
ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES ARE INCREASINGLY INTERTWINED WITH MANY ASPECTS
OF OUR MISSION SUPPORT OPERATIONS. GIVEN EVOLVING ENVIRONMENTAL
REQUIREMENTS AND AWARENESS, WE FREQUENTLY ENTER INTO DISCUSSIONS
WITH CONCERNED CITIZENS, FAMILY MEMBERS AND OUR UNIFORMED AND
CIVILIAN MARINES REGARDING HEALTH CONCERNS AND OUR SHARED NATURAL
RESOURCES. WE RECOGNIZE THAT MARINE CORPS LEADERSHIP AND STAFF
REQUIRE ENHANCED COMMUNICATION SKILLS TO EFFECTIVELY DIALOGUE WITH
STAKEHOLDERS DURING MISSION EXECUTION.
2. TO ASSIST IN MEETING THIS CHALLENGE, HEADQUARTERS MARINE CORPS
HAS PARTNERED WITH THE CIVIL ENGINEER CORPS OFFICERS SCHOOL (CECOS)
AND THE NAVY ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH CENTER (NEHC) TO BRING ADDITIONAL
RISK COMMUNICATION TRAINING TO MARINE CORPS INSTALLATIONS. HEALTH
AND ENVIRONMENTAL RISK COMMUNICATION WORKSHOPS AND ASSOCIATED
EXECUTIVE BRIEFINGS WILL BE OFFERED AT CAMP LEJEUNE AND CAMP
PENDLETON IN FY05 AS INDICATED IN THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPHS.
INSTALLATION STAFF AND LEADERSHIP SHOULD TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF
THESE TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES.
3. HEALTH & ENVIRONMENTAL RISK COMMUNICATION WORKSHOP. THE
THREE-DAY RISK COMMUNICATION WORKSHOP PROVIDES THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS AND TOOLS IN RISK COMMUNICATION FUNDAMENTALS AND PROCESSES TO
EFFECTIVELY COMMUNICATE HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION TO
STAKEHOLDERS. THE TARGET AUDIENCE IS MILITARY AND CIVILIAN
PERSONNEL RESPONSIBLE FOR COMMUNICATING ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH
ENVIRONMENTAL RISK MANAGEMENT, INCLUDING PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICERS,
FACILITIES AND PUBLIC WORKS OFFICERS, HOUSING MANAGERS AND STAFF,
ENVIRONMENTAL DIRECTORS AND MEDIA STAFF, HEALTH AND SAFETY
PERSONNEL, LABORATORY STAFF, SCIENTISTS AND ENGINEERS. INTERESTED

4. RISK COMMUNICATION EXECUTIVE BRIEFING. THE EXECUTIVE BRIEFING
IS INTENDED TO PROVIDE COMMANDING GENERALS, COMMANDING OFFICERS,
CHIEFS OF STAFF, UNIT COMMANDERS AND OTHER EXECUTIVE PERSONNEL AN
OVERVIEW OF THE CONCEPTS, PRINCIPLES, STRATEGIES AND SKILLS REQUIRED
FOR EFFECTIVE RISK COMMUNICATION. THE THREE-HOUR EXECUTIVE BRIEFING
WILL BE HELD THE DAY BEFORE THE THREE-DAY COURSE ON 18 APRIL AT CAMP
LEJEUNE AND ON 1 AUGUST AT CAMP PENDLETON. REGISTRATION FOR THE
