GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. MAY IS DESIGNATED AS ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN
HERITAGE MONTH.
2. THE 2005 FAPAC LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE WILL BE HELD FROM
31 MAY TO 3 JUNE 2005 AT THE CRYSTAL GATEWAY MARRIOT, ARLINGTON,
VA. FAPAC IS AN INTERAGENCY ORGANIZATION THAT PROMOTES EQUAL
OPPORTUNITY AND CULTURAL DIVERSITY FOR ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICANS
WITHIN THE FEDERAL WORKFORCE. AT THE CONFERENCE, FAPAC WILL PRESENT
THE MERITORIOUS SERVICE AWARD TO ONE ACTIVE DUTY AND ONE RESERVE
MARINE. THIS AWARD IS PRESENTED TO OUTSTANDING SERVICE MEMBERS FROM
EACH BRANCH WHO HAVE MADE SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE
ADVANCEMENT OF ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICANS IN THE ARMED FORCES.
CONTRIBUTIONS TOWARD DIVERSITY/EQUAL OPPORTUNITY ARE SPECIFIED AS:
(1) FOSTERING AN INNOVATIVE AND HARMONIC ENVIRONMENT BETWEEN THE
MILITARY AND THE ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN CIVILIAN COMMUNITY;
(2) ASSISTING THE WORK FORCE IN OVERCOMING DISCRIMINATION AND
ELIMINATING BARRIERS THAT HINDER EQUAL OPPORTUNITY FOR ASIAN
PACIFIC AMERICANS AND OTHER MINORITIES IN THE ARMED FORCES; (3)
PROMOTING THE TENETS OF CIVIL/HUMAN RIGHTS, RACE RELATIONS, EQUAL
OPPORTUNITY, AFFIRMATIVE ACTION, HUMAN RELATIONS, AND PUBLIC SERVICE
PROGRAMS WITHIN THE ARMED FORCES; (4) ALLOWING MILITARY MEMBERS TO
PARTICIPATE IN PROGRAM ACTIVITIES THAT BENEFIT THE CAREER
DEVELOPMENT OF ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICANS; (5) CREATING JOB OR TRAINING
OPPORTUNITIES THAT WILL SUPPORT AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE ADVANCEMENT OF
ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICANS IN THE ARMED FORCES; (6) MANAGING AND
PROMOTING A DIVERSIFIED WORK FORCE WITHIN THE MILITARY SERVICES; (7)
SERVING ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICANS IN THE COMMUNITY AND THE ARMED
FORCES BY REACHING OUT AND SUPPORTING CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMS
THAT SET AN EXAMPLE FOR OTHERS TO FOLLOW; (8) ENCOURAGING LEADERS TO
PROMOTE DIVERSITY/EQUAL OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM ACTIVITIES THAT ADVOCATE
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY FOR ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICANS AND MEMBERS OF THE
CIVILIAN AND MILITARY POPULATION.
3. COMMANDERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO NOMINATE DESERVING MARINES FOR THIS
AWARD. ALL MARINES, REGARDLESS OF RACE OR ETHNICITY ARE ELIGIBLE.
NOMINATIONS MUST INCLUDE A BLACK AND WHITE OR COLOR DIGITAL
(.JPG FILE), HEAD AND SHOULDER PHOTO IN THE SERVICE "A" UNIFORM; A
TYPE WRITTEN, SINGLE SPACED NARRATIVE (NOT TO EXCEED TWO PAGES)
DESCRIBING THE NOMINEE'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS, WHICH SUPPORT THE FAPAC
AWARD CRITERIA; A TYPE WRITTEN CITATION (SINGLE SPACED, NOT TO EXCEED
18 LINES OF NARRATIVE 12 PITCH FONT, WITH 1 INCH LEFT AND RIGHT
MARGINS) SUMMARIZING THE NOMINEE'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS. THE COVER SHEET
SHOULD INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING FOR BOTH NOMINEE AND PERSON PREPARING
THE NOMINATION: NAME, POSITION, GRADE, ORGANIZATION, MAILING
ADDRESS, WORK PHONE AND FAX NUMBERS. NOMINATIONS SHOULD BE RECEIVED

4. CMC (MPE) WILL CONDUCT A SPECIAL EMPHASIS AWARD BOARD TO SELECT
THE MARINE HONOREES (1 ACTIVE AND 1 RESERVE) ON 7 APRIL 2005. THE
AWARD RECIPIENTS WILL BE ANNOUNCED VIA MARADMIN IN MID-APRIL 2005.
TRAVEL AND PER DIEM FOR THE AWARD RECIPIENTS AND ONE FAMILY MEMBER
WILL BE FUNDED BY CMC (MPE).
5. THIS MARADMIN IS APPLICABLE TO THE MARINE CORPS RESERVE.
