GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. CONGRATULATIONS TO MARINE CORPS COMBAT SERVICE SUPPORT SCHOOLS (MCCSSS) FOR SELECTION AS THE MARINE CORPS WINNER OF THE 2014 DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE (DOD) SEXUAL ASSAULT PREVENTION INNOVATION AWARD.
2. IN JUNE 2014, THE DOD SEXUAL ASSAULT PREVENTION AND RESPONSE OFFICE INITIATED AN ANNUAL SEXUAL ASSAULT PREVENTION INNOVATION AWARD TO RECOGNIZE A GROUP OR AN INDIVIDUAL FROM EACH MILITARY SERVICE WHO CONTRIBUTED OR DEVELOPED AN INNOVATIVE IDEA, CONCEPT, METHODOLOGY, OR APPROACH TO POSITIVELY IMPACT THE SEXUAL ASSAULT PREVENTION AND RESPONSE PROGRAM ON AN INSTALLATION, IN A DEPLOYED ENVIRONMENT, OR IN A RESERVE COMPONENT.
3. MCCSSS WAS RECOGNIZED FOR ITS INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO SEXUAL ASSAULT PREVENTION EFFORTS, TO INCLUDE ITS “MARINES DON’T DO PERMANENT THINGS WITH TEMPORARY PEOPLE” CAMPAIGN AND CORRESPONDING COURSE FOR ENTRY-LEVEL STUDENTS. THESE AND OTHER EFFORTS HAVE RESULTED IN A SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN SEXUAL ASSAULT INCIDENTS WITHIN MCCSSS, AS WELL AS IMPROVED VICTIM REPORTING AND PARTICIPATION IN THE MILITARY JUSTICE SYSTEM.
4. COMPETITION FOR THIS FIRST ANNUAL AWARD WAS PARTICULARLY KEEN, AND ALL NOMINEES ARE COMMENDED FOR THEIR COMMITMENT TO PREVENTION EFFORTS IN SUPPORT OF THE MARINE CORPS SEXUAL ASSAULT PREVENTION AND RESPONSE PROGRAM.
