2. This symposium will highlight critical public affairs skill sets and provide media relations tools to commanders and other Marines in leadership billets who require expert communication skills and will likely interact with news media representatives. Briefings, participatory exercises, and guest speaker presentations are scheduled at venues throughout New York City.
3. Target Audience. Command leadership is the primary focus of effort; however, commanders are encouraged to bring their public affairs officers. Due to physical space limitations, course format, and logistical factors, participating public affairs officers may not be able to attend all events.
4. Registration. Request commanders submit registration requests not later than 6 May 2015 via e-mail to eve.baker@usmc.mil. Provide the full name, grade, MOS, current military address, work phone, mobile phone, email address, present duty assignment, and rotation date of all nominees. Should the number of requests exceed maximum capacity, requests will be prioritized in the order received. On 7 May 2015, OUSMCC will notify all approved to attend.
5. Funding. All costs will be funded by the participant’s parent command. Government travel cards should be used for all official travel. No disbursing or transportation assistance is available on site. The cost of taxi to the billeting site from La Guardia, Kennedy or Newark airports is approximately $60.00 one way including tip. Rental cars are not authorized.
6. Uniform. The uniform of the day is service “C” for symposium activities.
7. Billeting. Individual travelers are responsible for all billeting arrangements. Participants are encouraged to billet in mid-town Manhattan, using a block of rooms reserved at the W Hotel NY-Times Square, 1567 Broadway, New York, NY; call the W Hotel in-house reservations at 212-407-2932 and reference “U.S. Marine Corps” as the group name. Other nearby hotels include the New York Marriott Marquis (1535 Broadway) and Hilton Times Square (234 West 42nd Street). Cancellations are the responsibility of attendees, and failure to cancel a room may result in a room charge to the individual.
8. Agenda. Symposium training begins promptly at 0800 on 12 May. Training will conclude not later than 1400 on 15 May. Due to significant traffic congestion, recommend departing flights be scheduled for no earlier than 1630 on 15 May.
