GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. I am pleased to announce the United Services Organization (USO) has selected Sergeant Joseph P. Bednarik, 2d Recruit Training Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA as the recipient of the 2015 USO Marine of Year Award.
2. The reference solicited nominations for the award.  Each year, the USO recognizes Service Members from each branch of the military who represent the epitome of valor and dedication to service.  The award is the USO’s way of publicly honoring and thanking the outstanding commitment, exceptional service, sacrifice, and achievements of a Marine who has shown extraordinary dedication to our country.  All nominees for this year's awards program are commended for their noteworthy dedication to the Marine Corps and their fellow Marines.  The competition was exceptionally keen.  A sincere thank you is extended to the commanders who nominated Marines from their units.
3. Sergeant Bednarik will receive his award during the USO Armed Forces Gala on 20 October 2015 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.  Specific coordination details, to include travel arrangements, will be sent to Sergeant Bednarik by the USO and the Office of U.S. Marine Corps Communication via separate correspondence.  Congratulations to Sergeant Bednarik for a job well done.
