GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  The purpose of this MARADMIN is to announce a change to Department of Defense policy for Reserve Component members conducting AT in a designated imminent danger pay area.
2.  BACKGROUND.  Per reference (a), the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness instituted a change in policy that authorizes Reserve Marines, assigned to either a Selected Marine Corps Reserve (SMCR) Unit or to a command as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA), to be able to conduct the AT requirement in an imminent danger pay area.  The primary purpose of AT is to provide individual or unit readiness training.  Support to mission requirements, (i.e., Operational Support) may occur as a consequence of performing AT.
3.  SUBMISSION PROCESS.
    a.  All requests for annual training in a designated imminent danger pay area must be submitted to and approved by the Director, Reserve Affairs prior to execution of the annual training event.
    b.  Packages must include duty location, dates, supported requirement (e.g. named exercise), cost estimate with special pay entitlements, and justification.  Packages must be initiated by the SMCR member’s parent command and routed via the chain of command for proper endorsements, i.e. the Commander MARFORRES (Attn: AC/S G-3/5) for SMCR unit members or the respective Operational Sponsor (OpSponsor) for IMA Marines, and will be routed to the Director, Reserve Affairs via Reserve Affairs Personnel Policy (RAP-1). Packages shall be sent electronically to the RAP organizational inbox (rap(at)usmc.mil) no less than forty-five (45) days prior to execution of the annual training event.
    c.  Per reference (b), SMCR Non Prior Service members currently undergoing Initial Active Duty Training (IADT) and members participating in the Incremental IADT Program who have not yet completed their training will not deploy into an imminent danger pay area until the completion of their entire IADT requirement.  Completion of the IADT requirement encompasses the completion of Basic Training, School of Infantry/Marine Combat Training, and an Military Occupational School.
4.  Inactive Duty Training is not authorized in an imminent danger pay area.
5.  This MARADMIN is applicable to the Reserve Component.
