Gentext/Remarks/1.  The USSYP is an annual educational program sponsored by the U.S. Senate and funded by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.  This program provides 104 high school students, who are interested in pursuing public service careers, the opportunity to learn firsthand about the functions of government.  Ref A solicited nominations for mentors in support of the 2016 USSYP.  The Office of the Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs (OATSD(PA)) held a board, comprised of all branches of service, to select 17 officers for participation in this year’s program.  Competition was extremely high this year.
2. The following four officers were selected to represent the Marine Corps at this year’s program:
    a. Captain Erik Forestiere (Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort).
    b. Captain Jeffrey Dierling (Marine Aircraft Group 49).
    c. Captain Michael McCarthy (Headquarters Marine Corps, Manpower and Reserve Affairs).
    d. First Lieutenant Emily Darrow Meyer (2nd Law Enforcement Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force).
3.  The officers who submitted an application for this program are applauded for their commitment to the education and mentorship of our nation's youth, and those selected are deserving of recognition for their superior qualifications as mentors in this program.
