RMKS/1.  The Commandant, US Army Engineer School and the Deputy Commandant for Combat Development and Integration have published the revised Army Techniques Publication (ATP) / Marine Corps Reference Publication (MCRP) 3-17.2D, Countering Explosive Hazards.  On 11 February 2016, this publication, dated 21 January 2016, was authorized by Army Publishing Directorate for release.  MCRP 3-17.2D may be downloaded from the Marine Corps doctrine website at https:(slant)(slant)www.doctrine.usmc.mil.
2.  Background.
    a.  Army Techniques Publication 3-34.20/MCRP 3-17.2D, Countering Explosive Hazards, is a dual-Service publication used to provide guidance on how engineers/combat engineers counter explosive hazards in support of ground forces in order to assure commanders’ freedom of action, success and maneuver.  A secondary purpose of the publication is to clarify terminology and ensure that communications among engineers/combat engineers and the combat arms team are unambiguous.
    b. While the principal target audience for this publication is engineer/combat engineer leaders and staffs from platoon to corps levels, all leaders will benefit from reading it.  Trainers, educators, and combat developers throughout the Army and Marine Corps will find considerable value in this publication.
3.  Coordinating Instructions.  Ref (a) details steps required to request publication hard copies; however, this publication will be disseminated via electronic distribution only unless commanders submit compelling needs justification for printed copies. Units requiring print allocations must follow procedures identified in ref (a), paragraph 4a(2).  For Marine Corps Publication Distribution System (MCPDS) identification purposes, the publication control number is 144 000177 00.
4.  This MARADMIN is applicable to the Marine Corps Total Force.
