GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. Per REF A, the 2nd Quarter IAP Experience Track Panel was held on 21 April. The panel reviewed 13 applications and selected four Marines. Based on the background, operational experience, and academic credentials, the below listed officers are approved for the assignment of the Foreign Area Officer (FAO) or Regional Affairs Officer (RAO) Additional Military Occupational Specialty (AMOS), as indicated below (read in six columns):
Name PGRD PMOS AMOS FAO-RAO Region
McLaughlin, J.A. O5 0102 8221 RAO Latin America
Ortiz, C.A. O4 7202 8241 FAO Latin America
Simon, P.E. O5 0202 8224 RAO Middle East
Young, M.J. O4 0202 8244 FAO Middle East
2. MMOA-3 will make appropriate entries into the officers’ permanent records to reflect the AMOS IAW REF A.
3. Per REF A, officers applying for a FAO or RAO AMOS are highlighting their availability to serve in International Affairs and Political-Military billets when not serving in their primary MOS. Officers subsequently declining to serve in such billets will have their FAO or RAO AMOS administratively withdrawn. Officers with a FAO AMOS are required to maintain current minimum Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) scores of 2/2/1+ (Reading/Listening/Speaking) per REFS A AND C. Failure to maintain minimum scores will result in administrative withdrawal of the FAO AMOS. Per REF A, all officers designated as FAOs or RAOs are required to possess a completed Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI). Those Marines who do not have a current SSBI will submit a request immediately. This MARADMIN serves as authority to initiate an SSBI.
4. Funding for language sustainment training may be available to Marines with the FAO or RAO AMOS.
5. Questions concerning the International Affairs Program (to include language sustainment) can be directed to the POCs given above.
6. Release authorized by GS15 Jeffrey DeWeese, Acting Director, Strategy and Plans Division, Plans, Policies and Operations, Headquarters U.S. Marine Corps.//
