GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. The recent change to the height/weight/body fat chart announced in ref (a) and (b) requires multiple changes to the current Performance Evaluation System (PES) order and its associated computer applications. Although the change is effective immediately for the Marine Corps, the Automated Performance Evaluation System (A-PES) will require multiple coding changes in order to align with new requirements.
2. There are two issues with A-PES when referencing the new chart:
2a. First, a routing issue exists for reporting officials writing on female Marines with weights above the old max.
2b. Second, a body fat warning will be presented for both male and female Marines age 26 and 36 to 39 years old who are allowed an additional percent.
3. Currently, APES users are unable to route a fitness report for a Marine that exceeds their respective max weight using the height/weight standards published 8 August 2008 in ref (c) and will receive an associated error message (Section A, Item 8f: MRO is outside of allowable weight limits, body fat must be specified). For example, if a female Marine is 64" tall and weighed in at 150 pounds, she would be over the max limit using the old standards listed in ref (c). With the published new standard from ref (b), that same female Marine would be under her max by one pound. Since coding the new standards into the system will require time, a suitable workaround is necessary for routing fitness reports.
4. In order to route a fitness report using the same example drafted above, a zero is required in the body fat percentage (Section A, Item 8f). Once the report is sent to Manpower Management Records and Performance Branch (MMRP) for processing, the processing section within MMRP will ensure it is administratively and procedurally correct and remove the zero from Section A, Item 8f before entering the fitness report into the Marines Official Military Personnel File (OMPF).
5. Additionally, ref (b) announced changes to body fat percentages for both male and female Marines ages 26 and 36 to 39 years old. The new numbers associated with the recent change will produce a warning in A-PES that states "body fat is over maximum limit for age." However, this warning message will still allow a reporting official to route a fitness report and only serves as a warning. Please reference the new requirements per ref (a) and (b) and route as required.
6. Reporting officials must remain diligent in their pursuit of accuracy, timeliness, and standardization. For any additional questions or concerns within the system, please contact the POC listed above.
