GENTEXT/RMKS/1. Purpose. On 17 Aug 2016, CMC approved the adoption of the Marine Special Operators breast insignia for wear on Marine Corps uniforms (Ref A). Upon assignment of PMOS 0372 and 0370, Marines are authorized to wear the insignia per the guidance provided below.
2. Accordingly, Paragraph 4002 of Ref B is changed to read:
a. Paragraph 4002.1.a 4002. BREAST INSIGNIA. (See fig. 4-4.)
1. General.
a. Per the current edition of MCO P1000.6 or U.S. Navy diver, Marine Special Operator, will wear appropriate breast insignia according to the following regulations.
b. Paragraph 4002.2, add subparagraph e.
e. The Marine Special Operator Insignia is a gold pin consisting of a bald eagle with outstretched wings, 2-3/4 inches from tip to tip. Centered upon the chest of the bald eagle is the Southern Cross emblem. Centered lengthwise on the eagle, and behind the Southern Cross is a Raider dagger 2 inches long. Centered above the eagle’s head and in front of the dagger, is a scroll with the words Spiritus Invictus in capital letters.
c. Paragraph 4002.3.b.
b. Anodized breast insignia will be worn on all evening dress and dress uniforms. Either anodized or oxidized breast insignia may be worn at the individual’s option on the service uniforms, but mixing of anodized and oxidized breast insignia is not authorized. Only anodized Marine Special Operator insignia will be worn on the dress and service uniforms. When breast insignia are worn on the utility uniform, anodized or oxidized breast insignia will be worn, with the exception that subdued brown or black breast insignia may be prescribed in a field environment in lieu of oxidized breast insignia. Only oxidized Marine Special Operator insignia will be worn on the utility uniform.
d. Paragraph 4002.3.l.
l. Not more than two USMC-approved breast insignia will be worn on the left, and not more than one foreign pilot or other U.S. service pilot/navigator insignia will be worn on the right, at any time. When the Marine Special Operator insignia is worn, no additional breast insignia is authorized for wear with this device.
