Supermodel Kate Upton and the Detroit Tigers Wives completed a grueling workout with the U.S. Marines at Wayne State University's athletic complex in Detroit on Aug. 22.

Upton and others completed a circuit course consisting of several rounds of burpees, sprints, jumping jacks and more in an effort to promote Marine Week Detroit that takes place Sept. 6-10.

“I’ve always had a lot of respect for our military, but the Marine Corps showed me a whole new level with their workout today,” said Kate Upton. “What I enjoyed the most was spending time with them and I’m really looking forward to Marine Week in September in Detroit. It will be an incredible way for the entire community to get to know the Marines and their mission like I was able to today.”

Marine Week Detroit is a four-day event that will showcase hands-on static displays, live demonstrations, time-honored Marine Corps traditions, musical performances and other events highlighting the history, military capabilities and community involvement of the Corps. All events are family-friendly, free and open to the public.

Gunnery Sgt. Sara Pacheco, a force fitness instructor stationed at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, led the workout session and will also be on hand during Marine Week to host workout sessions at Cadillac Square for the general public Sept. 6-9.

“It was a great event and Kate and the other women did an awesome job,” said Pacheco, who then had some advice for those participating during Marine Week. “Be prepared to be challenged but have fun at the same time. The workouts will test you physically and mentally.”

Immediately after the workout, Kate and Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander donned military Kevlar and packs to preview the Wins for Warriors inaugural Patriot Ruck on Sept. 9 in Detroit.

“It’s an honor to welcome the Marines to Detroit during Marine Week,” said Verlander. “It’s a huge opportunity for our city, and I’m just grateful to be a small part of helping to promote these great events. I encourage everyone to show up to support the Marines on Sept. 6-10, like they show up for us and this great Country every day.”

More than 700 Marines are participating in Marine Week Detroit to give the citizens of the greater Detroit area the opportunity to meet their Marines and celebrate community, country and Corps.
