CAMP LEJEUNE, NC, UNITED STATES -- Marines with 2nd Transportation Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group came together to compete during the 2nd annual Commander’s Cup competition at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Dec. 1, 2017.
The competition is an annual event divided into four parts and allows Marines to compete against one another within the unit.
“Today was the final event in a series of competitions between our companies at TSB,” said Gunnery Sgt. Christopher Clark, a platoon sergeant with 2nd TSB. “We tally up all of the scores and come together to see who the overall winner is during the last quarter.”
The competition began with an obstacle course and then included a maneuver under fire drill, tire flip relay race, log toss competition, Tug o’ War and ended with a pugil stick showdown.
“The culminating event was the pugil stick battle, which was amazing,” said Staff Sgt. Ryan Cheramie, a family readiness officer for 2nd TSB. “That was one of my favorites because everyone showed a lot of competitive aggression.”
The competitive nature of the event allowed Marines to improve overall unit cohesion.
“When we come out and compete against each other, it brings everyone closer especially when they’re cheering for their company and even cheering for the underdog,” said Clark.
By engaging in activities like this, Marines come together to foster an effective teamwork mentality resulting in stronger relationships throughout the battalion.
“Overall, it was a huge success,” said Cheramie. “It took a ton of planning, but if you have that set in stone, everyone can start to build on each other as a team.”
At the end of the competition, Support Company was announced as this year’s winner.
