MARINE CORPS LOGISTICS BASE ALBANY, Ga. -- Maj. Gen. Charles L. Hudson, commanding general, Marine Corps Logistics Command, passed the noncommissioned officer sword to Sgt. Maj. Joseph M. Davenport III, incoming sergeant major, granting him authority as the newest senior enlisted advisor of Marine Corps Logistics Command during an appointment ceremony, Friday.
Davenport previously served as the sergeant major, Headquarters Battalion, Headquarters Marine Corps, Washington D.C.
Enlisting in 1985, Davenport’s tenure as a U.S. Marine spans from combat environments supporting the U.S. and its allies during armed conflicts to multilateral training efforts abroad.
Davenport has served with both of the 1st and 4th Marine Divisions and Aircraft Wings.
Additionally, he has served two tours in Iraq where he served as the senior enlisted advisor for the Multi-National Security Transition Command Iraq/Iraq Security Assistance Mission. Davenport has numerous deployments to Korea, Norway, Aruba, and Peru throughout his multi-year career.
“He is a proven leader and combat veteran,” Hudson said. “We are fortunate to have Sergeant Major Davenport and his wife, Sandi, join the MCLC team.”
Some of Davenport’s personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
The commanding general described Davenport’s role in MCLC as a bearer and enforcer of institutional - Marine Corps - standards.
Davenport, who has been in the “Good Life City” for about 10 days, described it as a, “great place to be,” while adding, “we know it will be a great tour.”
