Hide your bootie and beware of black sails flying in the air. This year’s annual Harbor Days will shiver your timbers with pirates walking the shore.

Since 1960, Harbor Days has been Oceanside’s biggest-end-of-the summer block party. It gives the community an opportunity to show not only those visiting, but local residents, what the harbor has to offer.

Those venturing at this year’s event Sept. 19 and 20, are welcome to dress for the occasion, happening from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Patrons will get a chance to take part in pirate-related activities, view a vast display of arts and crafts, taste exotic foods and listen to a wide assortment of music.

“It’s a tradition for a lot of families to come to Harbor Days,” said Leslee Gaul, director of tourism, California Welcome Center, Oceanside. “It gives them a chance to spend time with each other while experiencing new things.”

Harbor Days is a free event and will include a range of family activities such as a fishing derby, face painting, a pirate-talking contest and a ‘Nail and Sail’ race.

Local military, police and fire protection representatives are scheduled to set up displays for the public, as well.
