MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. -- With the stress of the holidays upon us, this is a perfect time to give the gift of health and fitness to loved ones. Family and friends can now register online for both the Marine Corps Historic Half and new Semper Five Miler, which will be hosted Sunday, May 15 in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Those registering for the Historic Half will want to do so quickly before the cost increases from the current $80 to $90 through the in-demand pricing program. This program benefits those who register early for the Historic Half, allowing runners to take advantage of a lower registration cost before the next registration tier approaches.
Runners will pay $40 to register for the inaugural Semper Five Miler. Registration is available for both events at www.marinemarathon.com.
Known as the greatest half marathon in history, the Marine Corps Historic Half runs through Fredericksburg, Va. landmarks, including the Rappahannock River and includes the challenge of Hospital Hill, a 200-foot continual incline located on the Mary Washington Healthcare campus. The Semper Five Miler course will also go through Fredericksburg landmarks but will conclude at a shorter distance.
"There's no better gift then living healthy," says Rick Nealis, the director of the Marine Corps Marathon. "Registering now for Historic Half events will get participants in gear for New Year's resolutions and running goals."
The Historic Half hosts more than 10,000 runners participating in half marathon and five-mile distance events. Considered "the greatest half marathon in history," the event is organized annually by the Marine Corps Marathon committee and U.S. Marines and boasts a course featuring landmarks dating back to our nation's beginnings and the early homes of Presidents' George Washington and James Monroe.
