Press Release #14-019 UPDATE #7: Tomahawk fire containment level at 20 percent

The Tomahawk fire is presently at 20 percent containment and the 14-Area shelter in place order has been lifted. There are currently no reports of casualties or damage to structures.

The De Luz housing area is without power due to damage to more than 40 power lines. Crews are unable to begin repairs until daylight due to safety concerns.

The fire started at 9:45 a.m. on Naval Weapons Station Fallbrook, and moved onto Camp Pendleton has burned approximately 6,000 acres.

Military aircraft and the Camp Pendleton Fire Department worked in coordination with CALFIRE to prevent the fire from spreading off base. Camp Pendleton is in coordination with CALFIRE for the potential use of military aircraft Thursday pending the wild land fire status within San Diego County.

The evacuation order for the O’Neill Heights Housing area has been lifted. The evacuation order for the De Luz Housing Area is still in place pending an evaluation by the power utility.

Approximately 890 evacuees reported to Camp Pendleton's Paige Field house, located aboard Mainside, which served as the evacuation site for Naval Weapons Station Fallbrook personnel, Camp Pendleton's De Luz and O'Neill Heights Housing residents and Mary Fay Elementary School staff and students.

Naval Weapons Station Fallbrook is without power and will be closed Thursday.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
