This regulation establishes uniform methods for inspecting Army, Navy, and Marine Corps-owned subsistence. It defines the United States Army Veterinary Service’s responsibility for surveillance-type inspection of all Service-owned subsistence received, stored, issued, sold, or shipped by military installations (including those items received from all depots and supply points). It implements AR 40–657/NAVSUPINST 4355.4H/MCO P10110.31H as it pertains to veterinary service food hygiene, safety, and quality assurance inspections. This regulation includes specific instructions for inspections of semi-perishable and perishable subsistence. Operational rations will be inspected in accordance with DSCP Handbook 4155.2 and the appropriate appendix.
