The protection of the rights and welfare of research subjects is an acknowledged and accepted Service responsibility. This Marine Corps Order details specific procedures to ensure the protection of human subjects. Constructive communication and dialog among all parties involved in the review and conduct of research involving human subjects is required as a means of maintaining an awareness of the importance of safeguarding the rights and welfare of human subjects.

The U.S. Marine Corps uses the ethical principles below as the foundation for its human research, per reference (b).
