Retired U.S. Marine Col. Willard Buhl and Marisa Borzoni, the life partner of retired Lt. Col. Clark Henry, spread Henry’s ashes as part of his memorial service on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, Feb. 21, 2023. Henry enlisted during World War II, received a field commission during the Korean War and received a Silver Star during the Vietnam War. The memorial service included a tour of the 1st Marine Division command post and a tour of Camp Pendleton’s Landing Vehicle Tracked Museum.\ - Retired U.S. Marine Col. CWO4 Hershel “Woody” Williams, the last living Medal of Honor recipient from World War II, was honored at Memorial services in Charleston, W. Va. Family, friends, fellow Marines, and people from all over the country came to pay respects to Woody while he lay in state at the State Capitol Rotunda, July 2 and 3. A State Memorial Service in Woody’s honor was held at the State Culture Center Theater the afternoon of July 3. The service included several tributes, to include special remarks by the Commandant of the Marine Corps, General David. H. Berger, and the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, Sgt. Maj. Troy E. A memorial at the Sabånan Fadang burial site displays a plaque and ancient CHamoru lusongs, mortars used for pounding or husking rice, on Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz, Guam Jan. 29, 2022. Marines with Combat Logistics Detachment 379 march in the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Peleliu ceremony Sept. 15 at Peleliu Elementary School in the Republic of Palau. The event brought together members of the Palau community, World War II veterans who served in the Battle of Peleliu, elected officials of Palau and representatives the U.S. military to remember the landing that took place 70 years earlier. The Marines with CLD-379 came to the Republic of Palau aboard the USNS Sacagawea as part of T-AKE 14-2, a maritime pre-positioned force, multi-country theater security cooperation event that deploys from Okinawa to conduct training exercises and TSC events.
