1st MARDIV activates force preservation team

U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Benjamin T. Watson, the commanding general of the 1st Marine Division, officially established a force preservation team as part of the division’s primary staff to foster resilience and to better support the 22,000 Marines and Sailors in the Blue Diamond. The Marine Corps continually works to improve and address the complexities of behavioral health within its ranks as well as the resources available to Marines. One such way is through the implementation of the Embedded Preventive Behavioral Health Capability or EPBHC. EPBHC’s serve as the subject matter expert to the commander on unit wide coordination for early prevention through feedback on behavioral health programs, integrating behavioral health system stakeholders; helping develop, implement and monitor policies, programs, and strategic communications; and identifying unit-wide behavioral health patterns.

Microgrid at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar

In the Marine Corps, one of Marines’ most important responsibilities is to look out for their brothers and sisters beside them. Through the Sexual Assault Prevention Response program, Marines receive that capability. Behavioral health specialists report depression and suicide ideation rates increase during the holiday season and into the post-holiday period in the Marine Corps, according to the Headquarters Marine Corps Force Preservation Directorate. Marines may feel lonelier during these times as a result of being away from their families and supporters, said Shannon Hutchinson, the 3rd Marine Division behavioral health specialist.
