Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum's "Flight School" Summer Camp Students Visit VMM-268

U.S. Marines from Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 268 joined forces with the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum's "Flight School" program on June 27 and July 11, 2023, hosting a week-long aviation-focused summer camp for students in grades 6-8. This collaboration marked the first-ever partnership between VMM-268 and the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum's education department. The summer camp immersed students in the world of aviation, emphasizing the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math disciplines that underpin the industry. During their visit to VMM-268, the students assumed the role of simulated MV-22B Osprey pilots, gaining hands-on experience in virtual flying. Protecting turtles at MCBH

If you’re fortunate enough to spend some time in the ocean surrounding Marine Corps Base Hawaii, there’s a good chance you’ll spot a Hawaiian green sea turtle or two out for a swim. Once captured for their eggs, shells, and meat, the sea turtle population began to decrease many years ago. Thanks to the Endangered Species Act of 1973, this sea turtle became a protected animal and many of the practices that led to their population decline stopped. Today, Hawaiian green sea turtles are both a threatened and protected species and because of this, scientists with Marine Corps Base Hawaii are spending significant time and resources to facilitate their nesting in order to increase their odds of survival...

Monk seals take MCBH

In June 2021, the Hawaiian monk seal pup Lōliʻi was transferred to Marine Corps Base Hawaii for protection from crowds on Waikiki beach. Although a baby seal may sound like a great tourist attraction, the conservation and protection of marine wildlife is important, and that includes minimizing the chances of young, curious monk seals becoming habituated to people.

Amphibious Assault Vehicles, launched from the USS Rushmore, demonstrated amphibious landings as part of the U.S. Pacific Fleet’s joint sea-basing exercise, Culebra Koa 15, May 19, 2015, aboard Marine Corps Training Area Bellows. An International Association of Bomb Technicians & Investigators conference was held for the first time at the Explosive Ordnance Disposal building aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Wednesday and Thursday. This event was a chance for military and civilian personnel to come together, test out gear, learn, and build camaraderie.
