Recruits of Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, perform the four-minute water tread during the Water Survival Basic Qualification at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, April 11. Fear and lack of confidence caused some to become stressed and panicked, which made them forget the techniques they were taught. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Lima Company is scheduled to graduate June 10.
